A 4.5 kWp photovoltaic system facing South-East is operating on the roof of our house in Northern Italy in the foothills of the Apennine mountains. The exposition of the system is not ideal, as there is a slightly higher house on the opposite street side and there are trees on top of a slope both located South of our house. Nevertheless, the system provided us with 31 MWh of electricity in 7 years of operation, equivalent to avoided emissions of 13.7 to CO2 relative to the Italian energy mix.
Within 3 years using the electric car eUp! a total of 3.3 MWh have been used for charging the car, equivalent to 102 full loading cycles. We use the car mainly on short distance rides and recharge only at home with a 220 V power outlet. An estimated 50 % of recharging was powered by our photovoltaic system. The average realised range across all-year use was 262 km close to the theoretical WLTP autonomy of 260 km.
